Although corporate Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies continued to decline in 2013, prepackaged reorganizations are on the rise. As was the case in 2012, health care & medical industry bankruptcies once again lead 2013's bankruptcy count and the banking & finance sector had the greatest combined asset totals. Although BankruptcyData.com's statistical analysis reveals that activity has generally slowed, distressed securities Publisher George Putnam, III anticipates a dramatic change. Putnam warns, "Even if only a small percentage of the debt issued over the last four years goes into default, that is likely to generate a significant surge in bankruptcy filings."
